Closed Kerry nursing home to reopen with extra staff - 'It shows confidence in the community'

Ocean View Care Home in Camp is set to reopen in early 2026 as part of a recruitment drive to hire more staff for the facility.

Ocean View was closed controversially in August this year resulting in 13 residents being temporarily relocated to a different facilities.

The decision was met with frustration by family members at the time who claimed they were not consulted prior to the move.

Management at Ocean View said its facility needed to undergo a full programme of fire safety upgrade works, which were necessary to bring it up to the highest regulatory standards.

This coming Friday (December 12) Ocean View will host an open event at The Rose Hotel in Tralee aimed at informing those seeking care options for themselves and loved ones, as well as recruitment options.

The roles available are from across all departments and levels of experience, including Person In Charge, Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, General Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Chef/Catering, Housekeeping, Administration, Activities and Maintenance.

Interested candidates are encouraged to attend on the day and to bring a copy of their CV.

Riada Care is a family-run group owned and operated directly by the Gavigan family with more than 30 years' experience in delivering care in the Irish private nursing home sector. Ocean View Care Home came under the ownership of the Riada Care in early 2025.

"Riada Care is committed to Ocean View and we look forward to opening the doors and welcoming new and returning residents and staff to our home," said Garry Gavigan, founder of Riada Care.

"We have invested significantly to deliver first class care to the community of the Dingle Peninsula and we are privileged to do so," Mr Gavigan added.

Fianna Fáil Deputy Michael Cahill welcomed Riada Care's announcement saying it would bring a major employment and community boost to the Dingle Peninsula.

Deputy Cahill said the reopening represents a hugely positive day for Camp, the wider West Kerry community, and for the local healthcare system. He praised the 'tireless efforts and commitment' of all stakeholders involved in bringing the facility to this crucial point.

"From Riada Care and the Gavigan family, to local representatives, community advocates, and those who have worked behind the scenes to ensure that this care home could once again serve the people of the region," Deputy Cahill said.

"Riada Care's decision to invest significantly in Ocean View shows their confidence in this community and their dedication to delivering first-class care. Their leadership and experience will be of enormous benefit to residents, families, and staff alike," he added.
