OREANDA-NEWS German Foreign Minister Johann Wadefohl called on China to influence Russia in the peace process over Ukraine. His words are quoted in a statement on the website of the German Foreign Ministry, timed to coincide with the imminent start of his visit to China.
"In my speeches, I repeat that no other country has as much influence on Russia as China," the foreign minister stressed.
According to Vadefuhl, Germany is interested in Beijing "contributing to the achievement of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine." He called on China to "get negotiations from Russia" that would "respect Ukraine's sovereignty."
At the end of October, Chinese President Xi Jinping could not find time to receive German Chancellor Friedrich Merz when he intended to make an official visit to China.
