WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Wilson Center will host a special winter edition of Free Concert Friday next month, bringing back the popular summer tradition for one night during the quieter winter season.
The event is a collaboration with The Eagle's Dare, which has hosted weekly Free Concert Fridays during the summer.
Organizers at the Wilson Center said that Free Concert Fridays have been part of the city's "warm-weather rhythm," from the original outdoor series to The Eagle's Dare's recent version.
"We're so excited to host the longstanding free concert tradition that was established and beloved by so many folks in our region throughout the years," Zach Pluer, executive director of the Wilson Center, said. "We can't wait to open our doors and join the community in a fun night of supporting amazing local bands and vendors."
The event will feature three local bands, Kicking Bird, Churchyard Ghost and Tercel, as well as food trucks and local vendors.
Fort Lowell Records, an independent label representing Kicking Bird and Tercel, will spin vinyl in the lobby and announce free raffle prizes between sets on the main stage. Prizes include tickets and opera box experiences for around a dozen upcoming shows at the Wilson Center.
Mobile bars will be in the house and lobby with drink specials throughout the event. Food trucks Smash-N-Dash and Seoul Sushi will be on site.
Attendees can also listen for the announcement of The Eagle's Dare 2026 Free Concert Friday summer lineup and head across the street for post-show festivities.
The event will be held on Jan. 16. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and music begins at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public with no tickets or reservations required.
