MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) - After several years of applying, The City of Moundsville has finally been awarded a state-wide grant that aims to help communities improve work zone safety during road maintenance, utility operations and incident management.
Valued at around $3,000, the Work Zone Sign Package includes 14 portable work zone signs, six sign stands, four barricades, 16 cones among other reflective signage and vests.
West Virginia Local Technical Assistance Program, known as WV LTAP, awards the funds and provides other safety courses.
City Manager Rick Healy says the city has had numerous trainings with the program, and all of this is to keep workers and residents safe.
I think work safety is paramount. We want to make sure that when our guys are out on the road, they have everything they need to stay safe. So, with this addition of extra cones, signs, barrels, etc., we can be assured that that will happen."
In addition to the new signage, the city's entire street department will be attending a work zone safety class in January.
Moundsville was among 14 other cities and agencies awarded the grant.
