Black Ops 6 Update Downgrades Assault Rifle and Recon Specialty

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has broken franchise records left and right since its release on October 29.

While the campaign has ticked all the boxes for the first time in years, the game's multiplayer side is still a little rough, and Treyarch is working to patch the problems out.

Besides age-old spawn problems that have carried over from previous Call of Duty titles, the main problem in Black Ops 6 multiplayer lobbies is the lack of weapon variety.

Black Ops 6 Was The Biggest Call Of Duty Release Ever, Says Microsoft CEO

Black Ops 6 has broken all previous franchise sales records across platforms.

From the moment the game was released, assault rifles were performing great. The problem is that other weapons were not keeping up, so the only viable way to play was to suck it up and bring an AR to the fight.

To keep other weapon classes competitive, Treyarch took the mighty nerf hammer to the assault rifles, and the Recon Combat Specialty in the process.

Black Ops 6 Version 1.060 Patch Notes

Nuketown

After its addition on Friday, Nuketown is now also available for private matches.

Spawn Improvements

After years of complaints, Treyarch is fine-tuning the spawn logic across different maps.

This is an iterative process based on data analysis from matches, so expect more changes in future patches.

Weapons Balancing

Assault rifles got downtuned across the board on patch 1.060, with other weapons receiving some love in return.

Where rifles previously dealt medium damage, they will now deal inflict maximum, but this value is lower. However, after that range, it reverts to minimum damage.

The jump can be quite sudden. At the 40 m mark, for example, the Goblin Mk 2 went from 37 to 30 damage.

Meanwhile, submachine guns got their medium damage ranges extended.

Shotguns no longer can kill in a single slug hit, with the round's maximum damage downgraded from 106 to 92.

The visual effect of flashbangs is down by 20% in this patch.

Perk Adjustments

With the Recon Combat Specialty, enemies are now visible for 1.5 seconds instead of 2 after respawning. Treyarch expects to shorten this time again before Season 1 drops.

The Dispatcher Perk has slightly increased ability costs. UAVs now cost 550 instead of 500, while Counter UAV is now 600 rather than 550.

Stability Improvements

Message of the Day, voice comms, and the Infected mode are now less prone to crashing or breaking up.

Completion Display

Progress will now appear correctly for Prestige Challenges in zombies and multiplayer.

Bailey's Pistol

Bailey now has the correct sidearm in the Operator selection page.

Patched Premature Spawns

The patch fixed an annoying bug where you spawned right away before picking a loadout if you joined a game halfway.

Additionally, players will no longer die immediately upon spawning.

Scorestreak Rebalancing

UAV and Counter UAV have higher health pools. The napalm strike has a higher blast radius, while both the LDBR and the strategic bomber have a lower time to impact after call-in.
