'Captain America: Brave New World' Clip Features a Major Avengers Name Drop Teasing MCU Future

'Captain America: Brave New World' Clip Features a Major Avengers Name Drop Teasing MCU Future

Captain America: Brave New World is headed to theaters next week, but that has not stopped Marvel Studios from unveiling a brand-new clip from the film that directly addresses the current state of the Avengers. Brave New World will see Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) battle President "Thunderbolt" Ross (Harrison Ford), the latter of whom turns into a raging red version of the Hulk. However, Captain America and Red Hulk's conflict is more than just a physical one, as a new scene unveiled by Marvel reveals that the U.S. President wants the newly-minted superhero to lead Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but there's a pretty big catch.

On Monday, Marvel released a one-minute clip from Captain America: Brave New World that features President Ross asking Captain America to rebuild the Avengers. Of course, as Sam Wilson points out, this request is very hypocritical as Ross was the person who pushed the Sokovia Accords in the first place. However, it seems the new president has had a change of heart and wants the U.S. government to have a direct relationship with the Avengers (partly due to them saving half the population in Endgame). Wilson is quick to poke holes at this proposed team-up, asking Ross what would happen if both parties were to disagree on how to manage a situation. The president is quick to respond: "We'll figure it out together."

It's unclear if the Avengers rebuild will happen in Captain America: Brave New World, but it is quite telling that Marvel readily put the scene out online. Ever since Avengers: Endgame, the Multiverse Saga has taken a break from building back up Earth's mightiest superhero team. Brave New World seems to be the most concerted effort to bring them back, a precursor to not only the films arriving later this year -- The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts* -- but to the Russo brothers' upcoming Avengers sequels, Doomsday and Secret Wars.

How 'Captain America 4' Sets Up the 'Avengers' (& 'Thunderbolts*')

If Captain America: Brave New World addresses the future of the Avengers head-on, expect it to have lasting effects on imminent MCU films. A possible connection could be found with anti-hero team featured in Thunderbolts*, whose name in the comics was inspired by Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. Of course, it is unclear if the film will follow that origin of the name, but it is easy to connect the dots from afar. The Thunderbolts team, which some think will transition to the "Dark Avengers," is expected to form part of the upcoming Avengers films by the Russo brothers. Could a post-credits scene for Brave New World tease a new Avengers team? Time will only tell, but the odds are looking good.

Meanwhile, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is getting a trailer this week, is widely expected to set up Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has already confirmed that Marvel's First Family has a role to play in the Avengers sequels, which makes sense as Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom serves as the main villain. Brave New World, in potentially creating a new Avengers team, could find members in the superpowered family.
