The Rwanda National Police (RNP) urged over 2,500 students in the City of Kigali to exhibit responsible conduct and positive values during school holidays, and to avoid practices that could jeopardize their future.
The RNP delivered the message to students of FAWE Girls School, EFOTEC, and Kagarama Secondary School during an outreach to guide them toward staying engaged, responsible, and safe in their break.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Viateur Ntiyamira, the Regional Community Policing Officer (RCPO) for the City of Kigali, urged students to use their holidays for productive activities to avoid negative peer influence that leads to crime, specifically drug abuse and alcoholism.
"You are the primary guardians of your own safety. Avoid anything that can compromise your future, especially drug abuse, immoral acts and other forms of delinquent behavior... make conscious decisions to protect your future," SP Ntiyamira told the students.
He further explained that crimes committed under the influence of drugs pose a serious threat to public security.
He further urged the students to provide timely information on individuals involved in drug trafficking, trade and abuse, or other criminal activities.
"The holidays provide you with opportunities to rest, refresh your memories, revise and support your families. Do not give space to those who seek to destroy your lives," the RCPO said.
At Kagarama Secondary School, the headteacher, Nkurunziza Samuel, commended the Rwanda National Police for prioritizing students' wellbeing during the holiday period.
He emphasized the importance of close collaboration between families, communities, security organs and schools in protecting children from any malpractices and guiding them towards a better future. (End)
