Scott Thygerson, CEO of Kern Medical, said the new pediatric emergency department was made possible through a $9.2 million grant from the California Healthcare Financing Authority.
More than 100 doctors, nurses and other staff gathered near the front entrance to Kern Medical on Wednesday morning to celebrate the imminent opening of the hospital's new Pediatric Emergency Department, a dedicated space designed to provide specialized care for children experiencing medical emergencies.
The hospital's emergency room in east Bakersfield is already well-known for its expertise and decades of service as Bakersfield's sole trauma center, where the hospital's ER staff provide critical care for victims of traumatic auto and motorcycle accidents or for patients suffering from gunshot wounds or any number of other life-threatening injuries.
