President Bola Tinubu and the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, on Sunday joined other dignitaries at Iwo town to celebrate Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Rasheed Akanbi, as he marked 10 years on the throne of his forebears.
At the event held at his palace in Iwo, they described Oluwo as a people-oriented monarch whose contribution fosters national unity since he ascended the throne.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu, who was represented by the Director-General of Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, Olasunkami Tegbe, noted that the past decade under his reign has been marked by peace, cultural revival, and community development.
He said, Mr President joins sons and daughters of Iwo land as well as associates of the influential monarch in celebrating this special occasion. Mr President notes the tremendous impact and progressive streak of Oluwo in the past decade of his accession to the throne. You can hardly ignore his dynamism and his leadership and the fact that the people love him."
Also, Jibrin said, "What the king, Oluwo, has been doing since his ascension to the throne transcends Iwo; you are very instrumental in strengthening our unity and integration as a nation."
He promised to facilitate the construction of a modern palace for Oluwo and also ensure that Federal government roads in his kingdom are injected into the budget.
Earlier, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who was represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Sunday Oroniyi, assured that no amount of intimidation would remove him from his stool.
In his remark, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, described his reign as an exemplary model that bridges the gap between traditionality and modernity.
