Young Pembrokeshire surfing champion seriously hurt in car crash

The Pembrokeshire community is pulling together to help a local surfing champion on her road to recovery, following a horrendous car crash last week.

Delphi Beck is the under 18s girls Welsh longboarding champion.

Delphi won the longboard and was third in the shortboard at the Welsh Nationals this year and was training hard to fulfil her dream of competing in the Euros Surf Competition, taking place in 2026.

Unfortunately, the teen was involved in a serious road traffic collision on Templebar Road, near Pentlepoir, last Thursday, November 27, and was airlifted to hospital in Cardiff.

Delphi, 17, suffered a shattered pelvis in the crash and underwent a gruelling six-hour operation to repair it on Wednesday, December 3.

Her parents, Emma and Casper, well known for their We Love Curry business, are spending every minute they can at her bedside, supporting her through her ordeal.

They said that the surgery went well but that Delphi has a long road to full recovery.

They thanked the community for their love and support.

"We have been extremely touched by the kind words the community has given us over this difficult week," said Casper and Emma.

"It's been tough for Delphi over the past eight days and the delay in surgery was particularly difficult.

"Thankfully we had one of Wales' top pelvis specialist surgeons to carry out the work successfully and restore Delphi's shattered pelvis."

They added that, although Delphi will have stainless steel plates and pins in her pelvis forever, she is still hoping to be able to travel to Europe for future competitions providing her physiotherapy goes well.

Thankyou all so much for your support. We have been extremely touched by the kind words the community has given us over this difficult week.

Blue Horizons CIC Surf Club has organised a GoFundMe to help give Delphi the best possible chance of making it back to the sport and competition she has worked so hard for.

Surf Club members want to raise money to contribute to the cost of any additional rehabilitation, specialist physiotherapy or ongoing treatments that may lie ahead and provide Delphi with equipment to aid her recovery once she comes home.

The CIC would also like to help support her family with travel and accommodation while she's in hospital.

"Last week, one of Pembrokeshire's talented young surfers, Delphi, was involved in a serious car accident and had to be airlifted to Cardiff Hospital," said the Blue Horizons team.

"Her beautiful family -- who have touched so many of us here in south Pembs through their warmth, kindness and their much-loved We Love Curry business -- are with her every single night, supporting her through something no family should ever face alone. Now it's our turn to support them.

"Let's show this incredible family the strength and love of Pembrokeshire."
