Jigawa Revives Polling Units Fund

Jigawa state government has revived the Polling Units Fund and constituted the committee to manage it for efficiency and accountability.

Commissioner for information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa said the approval was one of the resolutions reached at the state executive council meeting.

The polling units fund is a grant allocated to each polling units for humanitarian support and minor renovation of public facilities like borehole, and drainages.

The program was designed to bring governance closer to the people, ensure available resources for timely intervention, promote wealth creation and sustainable grassroots development.

The programme was introduced in 2002 by former governor Saminu Turaki. It was however halted in 2007 by the administration of Governor Sule Lamido.

The Chief of Staff, Senator Mustapha Makama is to serve as chairman, while Commissioners of Land, Local government and Information, Ahmed Garba, Ibrahim Garba and Sagir Musa Ahmed respectively, are to serve as members.

Also, their counterparts for Humanitarian Affairs, Livestock and Commerce, Auwal D. Sankara, Abdurrahaman Salim Lawal and Aminu Kanta respectively, are to serve on the committee as members.

Others are Special Adviser Political, Lawan Garba (Bullet), Special Adviser Mobilization, Bala Yargaba

Chairman Dutse LGA, Sibu Abdullahi, Chairman Garki LGA, Adamu Hudu Kore, and Chairman Malam Madori, Salisu Sani Garun Gabas

Sagir listed other members of the committee to include DG ICT and Digital Economy - Dr Muhammad Hassan, Representative, Ministry of Justice - Bar. Ibrahim Adamu, Secretary: Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government & Community Development Muhammad Yusha'u.

Hon Sagir Said the committee was tasked to Develop and present a comprehensive framework for implementing the Polling Units Development Fund., Ensure successful execution of grassroots projects and interventions., Promote transparency, accountability, and equitable resource distribution., Facilitate citizen participation in planning and monitoring local development initiatives.

The Committee was mandated to fast-track community-level development across all polling units statewide. Also was given three weeks to present detailed implementation modalities.
