High school girls basketball: Benton rallies past Bossier in "Doc" Edwards Memorial Invitational; quarterfinals set

The Benton Lady Tigers defeated the Bossier Lady Kats 45-39 in the first round of the "Doc" Edwards Memorial Invitational Thursday at Bossier.

Benton plays Summerfield Friday at noon in a quarterfinal game at Bossier.

In other first-round games, Plain Dealing fell to Mansfield 48-39 in overtime and Neville routed Union Parish 53-15.

Mansfield plays Parkway at 10:30 a.m., and Neville takes on Captain Shreve at noon in other quarterfinal games. Both are at Airline.

Plain Dealing plays Union Parish at 1:30 p.m. at Airline in a consolation quarterfinal game.

With the late withdrawal of Jonesboro-Hodge, Airline received a double bye into the semifinals.

Kryshna Bostic led Benton with 15 points. Cylah Grigsby added nine. Lainey Lafitte had 22 rebounds.

Zamarion Carter led Bossier with 15 points. Orianna Edwards had 12.

The score was tied at 21 at the half. Edwards scored eight in the third as the Lady Kats took a 33-28 lead.

The Lady Tigers rallied in the fourth behind Bostic, who scored nine.

Jakayla Douglas and Brianna Newton scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, to lead Plain Dealing.

The Lady Lions led 25-16 at the half and 34-25 after three quarters. The Lady Wolverines rallied in the fourth and the game went into overtime tied at 38. Mansfield dominated the extra period.

Zy'mauri Canada led the Lady Wolverines with 16 points.
