Feargal Sharkey appointed President of the Sewage Campaign Network

THE Sewage Campaign Network has appointed musician, angler and activist Feargal Sharkey as its new president.

Founded in 2024 by a group of community campaigners including the Ilkley Clean River Group, the Sewage Campaign Network now comprises over 180 grass-roots volunteer-based campaign organisations.

Sharkey said: "We're at a critical moment for our waterways and our water sector, and it's clear that tinkering around the edges of water industry regulation will get us nowhere.

"I'm proud to be lending my voice to a group of grass-roots campaigners that are fiercely independent and committed to telling the truth about the state of the water sector. The Sewage Campaign Network is independent, free from industry and government capture, and is committed to evidence-based campaigning. They have been consistent and clear: only through ending the scam of privatised water can we restore our waterways."

Professor Becky Malby of Ilkley Clean River Group and founder of the Sewage Campaign Network said: "We are delighted that Feargal has joined us as President. More than ever, we need strong voices to amplify the message that only by ending the calamity of privatised water can we really begin to address the crisis in our water sector."
