The Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Dodgers are seemingly the top three teams in the sweepstakes for slugger Kyle Tucker. Tucker is the best position player on the market right now, but he's projected to sign for nearly $400 million.
The Dodgers are reportedly only willing to give Tucker a three- or four-year deal. Because of that, it seems like they're going to be out of the sweepstakes unless something drastically changes.
Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut predicted on Saturday that the Blue Jays would be the team to sign Tucker in free agency.
"The Toronto Blue Jays have opened up the proverbial wallet early in MLB free agency, and we don't anticipate that changing as the winter moves on," Johnson wrote. "All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker already met with club officials, and ownership seems willing to come out on top of a bidding war for his services. Tucker would solve a weakness in the Blue Jays lineup, slotting in at a spot where Toronto ranked 14th in OPS (0.732) at the position. The organization is fully embracing all-in mode, and we think that results in signing Tucker."
The Blue Jays have added a few stars in free agency already, but they seemingly have enough money to make another big splash.
While they could chase Bo Bichette, it would likely make more sense to go after Tucker. Tucker would fill a huge hole in the team's outfield that was supposed to be filled by Anthony Santender. The addition of Tucker would keep Toronto at the top of the American League.
