Vernon school district students ready to run

Cross country run at Marshall Fields Sept. 24 to cause Okanagan Landing Road congestion

Motorists are being warned about some congestion on a local road as 1,000 students lace up to race.

The Vernon School District is holding a cross country run at Marshall Fields on Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. for elementary students.

"The traffic on Okanagan Landing Road, near Marshall Fields, will be increased as 1,000 students participate," said Lisa Quiring, Hillview Elementary acting principal. "Many parents will be present, as well as increased school bus traffic. We are asking drivers to be aware of the increased traffic and perhaps avoid the area during those hours if able."

The second run is set for Oct. 1 at the DND grounds, where parking and area traffic will also be impacted.

The third run will take place at J.W. Inglis Elementary in Lumby on Oct. 8.
