Food-truck zone approved by Capital Trustees Board under public-private model

plan to set aside serviced plots for a dedicated food-truck zone in Bah-A rain was approved by the Cap-ital Trustees Board yesterday.

The scheme covers prepared public or private land with pow-er, water and sewer links, a sin-gle licensing system, and on-site waste sorting, to bring the trade into one managed setting and draw visitors.

Branded 'Food Truck Bah-rain', the site would be run through a public-private model.

Government supplies the land and core services. A private op-erator manages the venue and fits it out with seating, lighting, décor, security, cleaning and events. Vendors pay rent for space and utilities.

Pitch

Each pitch would have central connections for electricity and water, a sewer tie-in and regu-lated grey water disposal.

The plan calls for smart bins for recycling, CCTV coverage and emergency response ar-rangements with Civil Defence. Licensing would be issued by one regulator, with hygiene rules applied across the site. Backers say the venue is meant to give small and medi-um-sized firms a steady base and to appeal to families, young people and GCC visitors.

Design

The design brief includes Bahraini motifs and regular markets for local products and crafts.

The proposal sets out expect-ed returns through land-lease income to the state, rental and sponsorship revenue to the op-erator, and new roles for young Bahrainis.

"The project is inspired by successful models like Last Exit in Dubai," said proposer Mubar-ak Al Nuaimi. "It uses desig-nated public or private land to form an organised space for food trucks, with essential ser-vices in place to keep standards of safety and cleanliness high."
