German residents went from extremely annoyed to just grossed out when they discovered the culprit behind their apartment building's excessive doorbell ringing.
As The Guardianreports, residents were awoken late at night by the sound of never-ending doorbell ringing and no doorbell ringer in sight.
While they thought they were victims of kids playing what's known as klingelstreich in Germany -- which you may know as ding-dong-ditch or knock-door-run, depending on where you grew up -- they soon learned it wasn't the grubby hands of children that was causing the ruckus, but the slime of a slug.
Upon being called to the building, police officers discovered the slug wriggling around the metal bell plate.
"[The slug has] been brought down to size, taught about its territory boundaries and placed on a nearby stretch of grass," police say in a statement.
