Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam, is planning a major coastal transport project connecting Cam Ranh International Airport with southern Khanh Hoa, featuring a four-kilometer sea-crossing bridge.
Nguyen Khac Toan, chairman of the provincial People's Committee, on Friday led a delegation to survey an area set to build the seaside road that will link the airport and key southern economic zones in the province, known as the former Ninh Thuan Province.
Ninh Thuan Province and Khanh Hoa Province were merged into a single administrative unit named Khanh Hoa Province, effective from July 1, 2025.
The new route will stretch 25 kilometers, including a four-kilometer sea bridge and 21 kilometers of road, according to the provincial construction investment project management board.
The proposed design features a roadbed width ranging from 20.5 to 27 meters and a bridge cross-section of about 27 meters with six traffic lanes.
The bridge will have a navigational clearance of 37 meters.
The project is planned to carry a price tag of VND10 trillion (US$378 million), sourced from both central and local budgets.
Of the amount, VND2.3 trillion ($87 million) will be allocated for road construction, VND7.5 trillion ($283.8 million) for the bridge, and VND200 billion ($7.2 million) for land clearance.
Once completed, the project will form a coastal transport corridor linking Cam Ranh International Airport to major tourist destinations and economic hubs in the southern part of Khanh Hoa Province.
It is also expected to enhance the province's capacity to respond to natural disasters and climate change while strengthening coastal defense and security.
The project will be implemented across Cong Hai and Nam Cam Ranh Communes, and Bac Cam Ranh Ward.
During the site visit, Toan emphasized that the route is one of the province's key infrastructure projects in the coming years.
