DES MOINES(KWWL)--Day one is in the books and it brought with it some big moments -
Nine time champ Kadence Huck of Nashua-Plainfield added another title to her resume capturing her third 1A 4-hundred state title blazing the track in 55.61 - but she was hoping for a little more -
"I really wanted the record, but that's ok, no one was up there. But it feels good to have it back, I mean, it felt good, pr, I mean, couldn't ask for better."
In the 4A race - it was Kloe Nissen of Cedar Falls - the sophomore who ran at Don Bosco a year ago - taking the title in a personal best 55.78 seconds -
"I saw some people on the inside, and I was like I did not come this far to lose. I just tried to finish hard and I pr'ed. It was exciting."
On the boys side the 4A 4-hundred was a classic - Cedar Falls' Brennan Hoyer with a great anchor leg - led the Tigers to the third best time in state history - but not a win - Ankeny's Ethan Zuber anchored the Hawks to the state's second best time just ahead of the Tigers -
In 3A - Western Dubuque's Quentin Nauman had an incredible kick in the final lap of the 32-hundred running the final 400 in an incredible 55 seconds to defend his 3A title -
"I just took it with 430 left to go. I didn't look back, maybe just looked at the screen and noticed that no one was there, but I was just going to keep going no matter what."
In the 2A 4 by 8-hundred - Denver's Myles Matthias get the baton in first - and kept the spot - holding off Aplington-Parkersburg's Trevan Thomas to give the Cyclones a title -
Emerson Vokes of Grundy Center went wire to wire in the 2A race - the junior giving the Spartans team title race a big boost right off the bat -
"Yeah, I was talking to my coach right before that race and it was just like, make a mark out there. You're the first race, light a spark, and that's what I did out there."
