The Recording Academy has withdrawn J-Kwon's Grammy eligibility for Shaboozey's country hit "A Bar Song (Tipsy)."
The 2025 Song of the Year nominee, which includes an interpolation to J-Kwon's 2004 hip-hop track "Tipsy," initially credited the "Hood Hop" rapper as well as writers Joe Kent and Mark Williams.
However, an update posted Thursday revealed Kent, Williams and J-Kwon, whose real name is Jerrell C. Jones, will no longer be considered songwriters for the Shaboozey song.
The writers of the J-Kwon anthem will now only eligible for a certificate if the song wins at the Feb. 1 awards ceremony, per the Academy's rules regarding sampled or interpolated material.
USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Shaboozey and J-Kwon for comment on the change.
"Tipsy" peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in April 2004 and now lives on through "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," which stayed at No. 1 for over four months.
It joined Lil Nas X's 2018 hit "Old Town Road" as the only songs to top the Billboard's Hot 100 chart for 19 weeks.
"A Bar Song (Tipsy)" landed Shaboozey, whose real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze, his first of five Grammy nominations, including Best Country Song, Best Country Solo Performance and Song of the Year.
The Virginia artist, known for fusing country and rap, also landed a Best New Artist nomination following his third album ,"Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going." He also entered people's radars through his collaborations with Beyoncé on her country record "Cowboy Carter." Their track "Spaghetti" is also nominated for "Best Melodic Rap Performance."
The 2025 Song of the Year Grammy nominations include the following:
