In 1925, muzzle or confine your dog, is the order given by Urbana police by reason of the epidemic of hydrophobia that is attacking the canine population, particularly in Springfield, where 20 mad dogs have been killed and several people bitten. It's feared the sudden rise in temperature will aggravate the disease, and police are determined to take no chances.

In 1975, an Illinois State Board of Education study committee tentatively approved the concept of having all state university governing boards, including the UI Board of Trustees, appointed by the governor rather than elected.

In 2010, for the fourth time this decade, the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club is appealing for community help to keep its doors open. The club won't be able to offer its popular summer program for children and teens unless it raises about $175,000 by June 1, and another $173,000 by July 1, board President Toney Tomaso said.
