September 01, (THEWILL) -- The Kano State Police Command has arrested 107 suspects in various anti-crime operations conducted across the state in August 2025.
Commissioner of Police, Dr Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the command's headquarters in Kano on Monday.
He said the suspects were arrested for offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and vehicle and motorcycle theft, to thuggery and other social vices.
Bakori explained that the arrests were made under the command's special operation, Operation Kukan Kura, designed to reclaim public spaces from criminal elements.
"In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the command intensified its efforts through the implementation of Operation Kukan Kura, which adopts both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches," he said.
According to him, the initiative is community-centered and encourages active public participation in policing.
"This strategy has led to a steady decline in thuggery-related crimes (Fadan-Daba) across the state," Bakori added.
The commissioner further revealed that from July 1, 2025, when Operation Kukan Kura was launched, to date, the command recovered 473 dangerous weapons and a large quantity of illicit drugs.
The items include one AK-47 rifle, two fabricated guns, 11 live ammunition, seven motor vehicles, eight motorcycles, seven cows, 102 cutlasses, 74 knives, and 458 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.
