DALLAS, Texas -- Five Dallas Baptist pitchers combined to limit North Dakota State to four hits and a first inning run while striking out 14 in a win Sunday at Horner Ballpark.
Starter Rian Schwede went five innings, allowing a run on three hits, to get the win. He walked one and struck out eight. Four DP relievers each worked a scoreless inning.
North Dakota State's Jake Schaffner led off the game with a home run to right field. Kyle Law, Dante Smith and Davis Hamilton all singled.
The Bison are 0-3 and play two games at Lamar at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Beaumont, Texas.
GOODYEAR, Arizona -- The North Dakota State men's golf team opened its spring schedule at the Loyola Intercollegiate on Sunday at the Palm Valley Golf Club. The Bison are tied for seventh in the 19-team field after the first of three rounds over three days.
Josh Galvin led the Bison on day one on the par-72, 7,015-yard course, shooting a 2-under 70 to tie for 14th overall.
Ian Simonich is one shot behind Galvin in a tie for 21st at 1-under 71. Sean Moore and Rylin Petry rounded out the Bison, both with rounds of 1-over of 73 to tie for 45th in the 116-player field.
The Bison begin round two on Monday with an 8:45 a.m. tee time.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Fargo's Finn McLaughlin scored in overtime as the Force defeated Sioux Falls on Sunday before 3,857 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
The Force trailed 2-1 midway through the third period but Luke Schelter tied it with his ninth goal of the season at 12:27 of the third on assists from Merril Steenari and Reid Daavettila.
McLaughlin scored the game-winner at 3:22 of OT on assists from Daavettila and Steenari. Steenari and Kuzma Voronin set up Eero Butella's 10th goal of the season at 7:55 of the first period.
Fargo goalie Alan Lendak stopped 36 of 38 shots.
OVERLAND PARK, Kansas -- The Volt 15-1 volleyball team went 2-1 on Sunday at the National Invitational Tournament Battle of Bartle 15U tournament on Sunday at the Advent Health and Sports Park at BluHawk.
Volt was also 2-1 on the tournament's opening day on Saturday.
On Sunday, Volt defeated the Colorado Juniors 25-15, 21-25, 15-6, then took down CUVC Premier 25-12, 25-17 in a late afternoon match. On Sunday night, Texas Legacy 15 Elite defeated the Volt 25-21, 18-25, 15-5.
Volt wraps up play in the tournament with three matches on Monday.
The Volt were invited to compete against the nation's best in the tournament put on by Triple Crown Volleyball. The tournament consists of more than 550 of the top club volleyball teams from ages 12 to 18.
