Kerry Washington has certainly kept busy in Hollywood ever since Scandal bowed out on ABC, but its edgy legacy lives on. The Emmy-winning actress and producer recently discussed how her iconic Olivia Pope persona changed the way Hollywood perceived her. And we're here to say that the work she's tackled in recent years is evidence enough of that. Washington's latest on-screen effort, a project she also produced, is the action-packed film Shadow Force, which is out now in theater and sees her wielding hefty guns and saving loved ones all at once. MovieWeb recently caught up with the celebrated performer, who also took time to reflect on Scandal, sharing that she stays in touch with the beloved cast and crew, and teasing a project in the future.

"We're all still very close. We have a Scandal chat on WhatsApp," Washington told us. "We just had a [Shadow Force] screening in LA, and Josh Malina and Jeff Perry and George Newbern and Guillermo Diaz all came to the screening. Tony's working in New York, but I'm hoping that he'll come maybe to the New York premiere if he's not working. So we do all keep in touch. We're very, very close. I would love to work with them all again. Obviously, Tony holds a very special place in my heart, but that whole entire Scandal family, I'm like, they're stuck with me till the day we die."
'Shadow Force' Is "Unlike Anything" Kerry Washington Has Ever Done
In the years since Scandal, Washington has tackled big-screen projects as well, her latest being a hard R-rated action film that sees her teaming up with the equally charming Omar Sy (Lupin, The Intouchables). It's a match made in heaven for your typical assassin-laced movie that spans across multiple countries and features other big names like Mark Strong (Kingsman) and Oscar-winner Da'Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers). Washington and Sy play expert assassins on the run from their former employer -- and their characters happen to be married with a young son. Washington opened up to us about what first drew her to the project:
"It's kind of the combination of it being this incredible, badass action adventure, but that at its heart, it's really a story about love and family and the lengths that parents will go to protect their child," she said. "I really was excited about getting to do the action and then inspired by the more dramatic and romantic elements. So it felt like it would be, I don't know, a film that I knew how to how to do all of the more dramatic parts of it, and it would be really exciting for me to sink my teeth into. But then the action part I knew was going to be unlike anything I'd ever done before. So the training and the learning and the stunt work and the weapons training, I mean, just was like so much new ground for me to cover and learn."
