Benny Blanco Taste-Tested the Viral Bubblegum-Colored Pink Pineapple -- So We Did Too

Benny Blanco Taste-Tested the Viral Bubblegum-Colored Pink Pineapple -- So We Did Too

PEOPLE editors conducted our own taste test, calling it juicy, extra sweet, and fruit-salad-ready -- even winning over skeptics with its aesthetic and flavor

Benny Blanco has added the pink pineapple to his growing food reviews list.

In a TikTok video, the music producer, 37, shares that he was gifted the viral Pinkglow pineapple from Fresh Del Monte. As he excitedly slices through the fresh fruit, he exclaims, "It's f------ pink!" as he shows the bubblegum-colored interior.

"The moment of truth," he says, before chomping down on the colorful fruit with his eyes closed. After a few moans, appearing to signal his satisfaction with the taste, he adds, "Find somebody to give you one of these -- find a store that sells them. They're f------ incredible."

He teases the rest of his review and says, "I would suck..." before the video cuts off, leaving the rest to his 8.5 million followers' imaginations.

According to the official website, the Pinkglow pineapple is a genetically modified creation that's been 16 years in the making. The fruit, which grows in the south-central region of Costa Rica, contains lycopene, a pigment that occurs naturally in other foods (such as tomatoes and watermelon) that colors the pineapple.

The fruit is planted and harvested by hand, which explains why delivered pineapples arrive without their crowns as they are used to plant new fruits -- creating a sustainable growth process.

Blanco, who's currently engaged to Selena Gomez, 31, made the pineapple look so good in his review, PEOPLE's lifestyle team decided to test it for ourselves.

Immediately, many of us noticed the amount of juice that came from the pineapple, which was surprising when cutting into it. "It's really sweet," one editor noted. "I would like this in a fruit salad, like with melons and strawberries and grapes and kiwis. It's still pineapple, but extra pineapple-y in a way."

One editor pointed out that it didn't have the same "sting" that comes with slightly sour fruits, but that didn't detract from the overall juicy, candy-sweet experience.

Another staffer added, "I'm not a huge fan of GMOs, but this does taste good. The taste is nice and it's aesthetically pleasing. I wouldn't mind being gifted this, like Benny suggested."

Although known for his musical prowess, Blanco has shared other food reviews on his TikTok, including warhead-flavored Fruit Riot, a $200 melon from japan, Eggo waffle ice cream sandwiches, and an egg flight (including a peanut butter and jelly egg that he rated a "10 out of 10"), which has Gomez's music playing in the background.
