Oswego, N.Y. -- Four people were displaced from their home early Saturday morning in Oswego after a fire damaged two apartments.
Around 1:53 a.m., fire crews were called to 231 East 5th St. for a report of a house fire, according to a news released from the Oswego Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived, they found a one-story, multi-family home with flames roaring above the roofline, firefighters said.
The fire spread to void spaces in the walls and into the attic, firefighters said. Fire crews had to quickly pull down walls and break apart ceilings to expose hidden pockets of flames.
"Getting water on the fire quickly made the difference, a task not so easy with temperatures in the 20's and lake effect snow," City of Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone said. "A power line also dropped right in front of the home after burning through, causing a quick shift in tactics."
The fire was declared under control at 2:24 a.m., according to firefighters.
The home sustained fire damage to the front apartment and the front exterior wall and roofline. The rear apartment sustained minor smoke damage.
The Oswego Police Department was first on scene, and assisted residents to safety, firefighters said. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and appears to be accidental, firefighters said.
