A man with a familiar voice will play a key role in the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square Christmas Concert series this week.
Actor Dennis Haysbert, a spokesman for Allstate Insurance and opening narrator for "Meet the Press" known for his deep and powerful voice, will narrate the three-night event that runs Thursday through Saturday at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.
"The iconic voice and great stage presence of Dennis Haysbert will greatly add to the spirit and meaning of Christmas at this year's Tabernacle Choir concert," Tabernacle Choir Music Director Mack Wilberg said in a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints news release.
Joining Haysbert as a guest artist at the choir's annual event is actress and singer Ruthie Ann Miles.
Each of the three concerts will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets have all been claimed, according to the release, but a standby line will form in the Tabernacle on Temple Square at 6 p.m. each day.
Haysbert and Miles also are scheduled to join the choir for its weekly "Music and the Spoken Word" broadcast at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the Conference Center. Tickets are not required for entry.
Beyond his work narrating commercials and television, Haysbert is known for playing the character of Pedro Cerrano in the movie trilogy "Major League" and President David Palmer in the television show "24." He also is the brother of Adam Haysbert, a former Brigham Young University wide receiver.
Miles is a Tony Award-winning actress and singer who has played several roles on Broadway, including the character Lady Thiang in a production of "The King and I."
The choir's 2023 Christmas concert will air on BYUtv each day from Saturday through Christmas and will be broadcast on PBS at 9:30 p.m. Christmas Eve.
