The streaming service announced Wednesday an eight-part documentary series on the 2024 SEC football season, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at 10 of the teams in the most competitive conference in college football. One of those schools: Billy Napier's Florida Gators.
The series will be produced by Box To Box Films, which also made Netflix's popular "Formula One: Drive to Survive" series, as well as similar inside looks into golf ("Full Swing"), tennis ("Break Point") and track and field ("Sprint"). The unnamed SEC series will air over the summer.
SEC spokesman Herb Vincent told The Athletic all 16 teams were given the chance to participate, and Florida was one of 10 who opted in. Tennessee is the only one of the conference's three teams in the College Football Playoff who will take part: Georgia and Texas opted out.
"This behind-the-scenes docuseries will bring all the drama and pageantry of Southeastern Conference Football to a worldwide Netflix audience," SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in a news release. "Football in the SEC will be presented in a way never seen before through the elite storytelling skills of Box To Box, the content studio that has produced numerous award-winning Netflix docuseries. We are excited about this new delivery of content for SEC fans everywhere."
The 2024 Gators are an interesting option to be featured. UF began the season in turmoil with Napier immediately thrust into the hot seat. But behind freshman quarterback DJ Lagway, the Gators bounced back with a 7-5 record, ending the CFP chances for both LSU and Ole Miss down the stretch. They will finish their season in the Gasparilla Bowl on Friday against Tulane.
