Sam Heughan has revealed his thoughts on potentially featuring in Outlander: Blood of My Blood following the prequel's successful debut last month, which delighted fans as work begins on a second series.

The 45 year old star became a household name portraying Diana Gabaldon's captivating Highland warrior Jamie Fraser in the Starz drama, reports the Daily Record.

Now that filming has concluded and the eighth and concluding series is scheduled to broadcast in early 2026, many have questioned whether the actor might make a guest appearance in Blood of My Blood.

During a recent chat, the Balmaclellan-born performer commented on joining the new programme: "Look, never say never."

He continued, explaining to the New York Post: "But also, we all know Jamie Fraser can't time-travel."

The actor added to the publication: "So I don't know. You'd have to do some really weird stuff because he's not been born yet. But, who knows?"

Blood of My Blood centres on Jamie's parents Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater), alongside Claire Fraser's (Caitríona Balfe) mother and father Julia (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine).

Whilst Claire has already been born, Jamie is yet to be conceived in the programme thus far, with the Highland warrior having an elder brother Willie before his arrival.

Furthermore, the sole manner in which Jamie could conceivably emerge in Blood of My Blood would be through a dream sequence, a vision or Jamie's spirit materialising. However, as Outlander has yet to unravel the enigma surrounding Jamie's ghost, it seems highly improbable that Heughan will feature in the prequel series.

Heughan's interview comes as he gears up to perform in the Royal Shakespeare Company's latest rendition of Macbeth.

He confessed his "trepidation" but also "excitement" about returning to the stage after such a long hiatus.

The actor will be taking on the lead role of the infamous Scottish king, with The Crown's Lia Williams joining him as Lady Macbeth.

Macbeth is set to be staged at Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Since Outlander, the actor has primarily concentrated on television and film roles, with his portfolio including The Couple Next Door, SAS: Red Notice, To Olivia, and Bloodshot, among others.

He has also lent his voice to the factual documentary Clinging by a Claw, which highlights the plight of Scotland's endangered wildcats.

The star is set to release his new book The Cocktail Diaries: A Spirited Adventure, due out later this month.

Once Macbeth concludes, Heughan is expected to be busy promoting the eighth season of Outlander as the series draws to a close.

Despite Outlander nearing its end, production has already commenced on the second series of Blood of My Blood.

The prequel series was given the go-ahead for a second run even before the first episode had aired.
