Steve Spurrier questions if Alabama is 'not very good' after not stopping Florida State run game

Florida State asserted their dominance against Alabama without much pushback, especially on the ground. That has Steve Spurrier wondering if the Crimson Tide simply aren't a good team in 2025.

It used to be an insane thought to have, but it might be reality after the Seminoles stomped out Kalen DeBoer's team in Week 1. During the latest episode of Another Dooley Noted Podcast, Spurrier shared his hypothesis.

"(Florida State) ran for what, I think 246 (yards) against Alabama? So, Alabama is either not very good, or FSU is going to run the ball down everybody's throat this year," Spurrier stated.

Of course, the latter could be true. The Seminoles did shake up their program in a major way, and their changes might've paid dividends. Still, Alabama fans are a bit timid after what they witnessed this past weekend.

Spurrier is far from the only one raising the question, as well. Kirk Herbstreit pondered the idea during Monday's broadcast of TCU at North Carolina, wondering if Alabama is a bad football team.

The ESPN analyst ripped what Alabama did on Saturday afternoon in the process. In his eyes, there was no bigger surprise in college football than watching the Crimson Tide perform the way they did.

"I used the word lethargic," Herbstreit said. "They were at a Tuesday practice, to me. But are they bad? Or is it a rough week? Because Florida State looked really good and Alabama could not have looked any worse. I think that had to be the biggest surprise of the weekend."

If last season was not enough, we learned this is not Nick Saban's Alabama anymore. DeBoer has now lost four of his last eight games in charge. Three of them have not been too competitive -- the Oklahoma game in Norman, Alabama's bowl loss to Michigan, and Saturday night in Tallahassee.

Moving forward, we might have answer to the question regarding Alabama revealed sooner rather than later. Louisiana-Monroe is next up on the schedule, and Wisconsin will follow before hitting a bye week.

Ffrom there, the Georgia Bulldogs might provide what Spurrier and Herbstreit want to know. DeBoer was able to take down Kirby Smart's bunch in Tuscaloosa and since then, not too much has gone right for him. With how Georgia looked in its opener, whether or not Alabama is right might play out right in front of our eyes.
