FARGO -- A local public health agency has taken action against four businesses that recently failed tobacco compliance checks.
Fargo Cass Public Health announced on Tuesday, Dec. 17, that several businesses received probation and another received a three-day license suspension.
Representatives of the four businesses were present at a tobacco compliance check hearing last week, the agency said, with all admitting to the sale of tobacco products to people under age 21 during tobacco compliance checks performed in mid-November.
Three businesses in Fargo received one year of probation and a $500 administrative fee: Casey's convenience store at 3545 25th St. S., Brake Time 702 at 1201 University Drive N., and Smokes 4 Less at 1013 45th St. S.
A fourth business received a three-day suspension of its tobacco license due to a second offense in the last year.
The suspension affecting Casey's at 301 10th St. N., runs from 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, to 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19.
That business must also pay a $500 administrative fee, the health agency said.
Several times per year, Fargo Cass Public Health partners with local law enforcement agencies to carry out tobacco compliance checks in Fargo, West Fargo and Cass County.
The intent of the checks is to ensure tobacco retailers are not selling any tobacco to people under the age of 21, the health agency said.
