CPA Australia and Muhammadiyah universities collaborate

CPA Australia and Muhammadiyah universities collaborate

Accounting body CPA Australia has established partnerships with 26 universities under the Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah networks in Indonesia to foster the growth of accounting professionals.

The initiative builds on a master cooperation agreement made in 2024 with Majelis Diktilitbang PP Muhammadiyah.

The agreements were formalised with the Economics and Business faculties, receiving support from the Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Higher Education Faculty of Economics and Business Association (AFEB PTMA).

CPA Australia regional head for Southeast Asia Priya Terumalay said: "We are delighted with this tangible step for CPA Australia to play a key role in financial literacy across the universities in Indonesia."

It marks CPA Australia's inaugural collaboration with an Indonesian university network.

The partnership also facilitates the regional expansion of the "Bringing the Future of Accounting to Universities" (BRIGHT) Programme beyond Java, reaching Eastern Indonesia.

CPA Australia, which has been active in the ASEAN region for 70 years and has maintained an office in Indonesia since 2011, launched the Bright Programme in Java in 2024.

The initiative included employer-led sessions across more than 50 universities in areas such as Jabodetabek, Bandung, Malang, Surabaya, Semarang, and Yogyakarta, engaging over 1,500 students and academics.

Participants gained insights from industry experts on the evolving demands of the accounting field in a dynamic global environment.

"With our established presence in Java, we feel the time is right for us to focus on the huge potential in Eastern Indonesia. We are working with Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, to bring the Bright Program to undergraduate accounting students in Makassar and South Sulawesi by collaborating with leading employers to share insights on finance and accounting in the age of disruption," Terumalay added.

"By facilitating the transfer of industry knowledge to undergraduates, we are enabling students to have realistic expectations and better understand the nuances of workplace culture."

CPA Australia emphasised its dedication to nurturing accounting talent by linking its members with educational institutions and students.

The collaboration aims to cultivate vital skills such as ethical leadership, strategic thinking, digital adaptability, and critical competencies like project management and value chain

"CPA Australia and Muhammadiyah universities collaborate" was originally created and published by The Accountant, a GlobalData owned brand.
