Clinging tightly to her mother, 3-year-old Carol Chuc did not seem to realize she was the star of the show Thursday evening when Santa Claus showed up to bring her a bunch of Christmas gifts.
She warmed up to the jolly old elf with the big white beard and bright red suit and even posed for pictures with him and a bunch of his helpers from the Brazos County Sheriff's Office.
"This is the 10th year the sheriff's office has been involved in providing a Christmas for local families," Sheriff Wayne Dicky said.
Utilizing the help of the local Head Start program, the sheriff's office selects several families each year for its Adopt a Family program and members of the public purchase gifts, much like the Angel Tree program of The Salvation Army but on a smaller scale.

Santa and the deputies from the sheriff's office met the family at Brazos Valley Mixed Marshal Arts (BVMMA) at Post Oak Mall for the gift exchange.

"Overall, through each of the presentations there will be 10 families in total," Dicky said.
Carol's mother, appropriately named Santa Sic Tumax of Bryan, was grateful for the gifts.
"It's a blessing because I'm a single mom and I can't buy her everything she wants, so this is like a blessing for us," she said.
Dicky said the Christmas program reflects on the spirit of the community.
"It just reinforces the fact that we are a part of the community," he said. "Being able to engage with families and other people in the community and working with BVMMA to do something like this goes beyond our normal, everyday work in the office as a law enforcement agency and I think it's another testament of just how great our community is."
