As of Wednesday night, the drive had raised $275,000 toward its $550,000 goal - about $70,000 behind last year at this same, said Maj. Larry Bridger.
"This year we are a little concerned, because with the mail strike we're not getting the mail-in donations," Bridger said.
Many individuals and businesses prefer to mail a cheque to the agency at Christmas, he said.
The Salvation Army hopes to raise $250,000 of its goal through the Red Kettle campaign and the remaining $300,000 through mail-in or walk-in donations.
The kettle campaign is up a little from last year as some people are dropping cheques into the kettles, Bridger said. The agency is definitely pleased and encourages this, noting charitable donation receipt will be sent to these donors.
