A dozen residents were displaced after a three-alarm blaze tore through an apartment building in Wakefield on Sunday afternoon, the Fire Department said.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the seven-unit building at 8 Wakefield Ave. at 12:47 p.m., Wakefield fire officials said in a statement. When they arrived, crews encountered heavy smoke in the right rear corner of the building and had to evacuate the residents because the fire alarm system in the building was not sounding.
