Edison hires six police officers, boosting ranks to 18-year high

The Edison Police Department has added six officers to its ranks.

Officers Salvatore Dellafave III, Brandon Gaul, Andrew Jobson, Jordan Pollak, Darian Proano and Matthew Turner were sworn in during a ceremony at the Municipal Complex with Mayor Sam Joshi and Police Chief Thomas Bryan.

The hirings bring the Edison Police Department to 199 officers, the township's largest force in 18 years.

"We are excited to welcome these six exceptional police officers to our team," Joshi said. "Each of our officers play a vital role in our community and have a shared dedication to serving our community. We are proud to support our law enforcement in their efforts to build safer neighborhoods for all of our residents."

Three of the new officers already have family in the department. Officer Jordan Pollak's stepfather is Sgt. Scot Sofield; Officer Salvatore Dellafave III's father is Sgt. Salvatore Dellafave; and Officer Matthew Turner's father is Lt. Douglas Turner, according to Deputy Chief Robert Dudash.

The six new officers will be attending the John H. Stamler Police Academy in Union County starting in January. Upon completion of the academy, they will then enter the department's field training program in the Patrol Bureau.
