Over eighteen months after getting a greenlight, the reboot of The Joe Schmo Show has finally got a premiere date.
TBS will launch the Cat Deeley-hosted series on Tuesday, January 21, at 9pm.
The series will follow Ben, an electrician from Baltimore, who believes he is competing for a chance to win $100,000 on a popular game show when he is, in fact, surrounded by a cast of improv comedians.
The ten-part series will see actors and the entire working crew scramble to keep Ben from discovering the hoax. With each challenge, the stakes grow higher as production is forced to pivot storylines, and castmates, who Ben sees as competition, improvise strategies to pave the path to his victory.
The Joe Schmo Show is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and Fly On The Wall Entertainment. It comes from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who created the series before going on to write Deadpool. The pair executive produced alongside showrunner Dave Kneebone.
The series originally launched on Spike TV in 2003 and aired three seasons.
"The modern revival of The Joe Schmo Show is the perfect complement to TBS' best-in-class comedy lineup," said Jason Sarlanis, President, Turner Networks. "Filled with heart and hilarious reality game show hijinks, the series will completely immerse our audiences in the ruse, taking them on a wild ride and keeping them rooting for our protagonist week to week."
