Former Vice President Kamala Harris will lose her Secret Service protection after President Donald Trump revoked the security detail, a White House official confirmed.
Vice presidents normally receive protection for six months after leaving office. President Joe Biden had extended Harris' coverage to a full year, but Trump signed an order on Aug. 28 to end it effective Sept. 1.
Kirsten Allen, an adviser to Harris, said in a statement: "The Vice President is grateful to the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety." Harris is preparing for a 15-city book tour.
Harris, Trump's Democratic opponent in the 2024 election, is not the first to have her protection canceled by him. Trump has also removed Secret Service details for other critics, including former national security adviser John Bolton and Hunter Biden.
