Zebby Matthews is a fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for Week 8 (2025). Target Zebby Matthews as a top prospect free-agent add for fantasy baseball.
ANALYSIS: Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Zebby Matthews was recently promoted to the major leagues. Matthews made his MLB debut last season but struggled during his first taste of the majors, holding a 6.69 ERA with a 1.65 WHIP. However, the young right-hander continued to progress at Triple-A during the opening month of the season and is poised to take the next step during his second stint.
This season, across 32 2/3 innings at Triple-A St. Paul, Matthews posted an impressive 1.93 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP. He struck out 38 batters and showed excellent command, allowing just nine walks. Last season, across 97 innings split between High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A, the Western Carolina product posted a near-perfect 114:7 K:BB.
The 25-year-old made his MLB season debut on May 18 against the Brewers. In this outing, Matthews struggled, allowing five hits and four runs across three frames. However, he struck out five batters, which is a promising sign. He is slated to face the Kansas City Royals this weekend.
With a favorable matchup, fantasy managers in standard 12-team leagues should consider adding him ahead of this start. Given his elite control, he could provide a significant boost to your WHIP if he can stay in the starting rotation.
