NJSIAA Girls Lacrosse Tournament: Allentwon grabs top seed in South Group II

The seeds were announced for the NJSIAA Girls Lacrosse Tournament on Thursday and eight area teams will shortly begin their quest for a state title.

Allentown (18-2), which has been the best in the area, gained the No. 1 spot in South Jersey Group 2 and open tournament play next Thursday against Pinelands Regional (8-7) at home.

The Redbirds have the home field all the way through the sectional final.

Allentown comes into the tournament as the Colonial Valley Conference champion and riding a 13-game winning streak.

The last two years, the Redbirds reached the sectional final only to fall to Haddonfield, but this season Haddonfield is in Group 1.

Robbinsville (9-11) is also in the SJ 2 bracket and hosts Ocean Township (7-10) in a first-round game.

The NJSIAA has done away with Non-Public A and B as there is just one Non-Public bracket. The decision cost a couple area teams like Princeton Day and Stuart a possible berth.

Notre Dame (17-3) is the No. 8 seed and drew a first-round bye. Bryan Fisher's side faces the winner of No. 9 Holy Spirit (11-6) and No. 24 Paramus Catholic (10-6) in a second-round game that doesn't take place until May 31.

The Irish have won 11 of the last 12 and their three losses have come to Allentown twice and Haddonfield.

There are three local teams in the South Jersey 3 group with Northern Burlington (12-5) gaining the No. 6 seed, Hightstown (13-4) is seeded No. 8 and Steinert (10-8) in No. 12.

Northern hosts No. 11 Toms River South (11-5), Hightstown welcomes No. 9 Central Regional (11-6) and Steinert travels to No. 5 Mainland (9-7). All games will be played next Thursday.

Hightstown has won 12 of 13 with only loss being to Notre Dame in the CVC semifinal.

Princeton (12-8) is No. 11 in the North Jersey Group 3 and heads to No. 6 Red Bank Regional (11-6) in the opening round.

Over in the North Jersey 2 bracket, Hopewell Valley (11-9) is the No. 11 seed and heads north to face No. 6 Cranford (9-10).
