Loose Women's Charlene White shares reason for not wearing a poppy - Daily Record

Loose Women panellist Charlene White has revealed why she chose not to wear a poppy during the show after fan outrage.

Fans of the ITV daytime show were left fuming after noticing that the 45-year-old was not wearing a poppy on her outfit in honour of Remembrance day, while her co-hosts were seen wearing the poppies.

The red poppy is worn as a sign of respect for those who lost their lives in the World Wars, with the majority of TV presenters wearing the flower on the days leading up the Remembrance Day, November 11, reports the Mirror.

Charlene was joined on the panel with dancer Oti Mabuse, comedian Judi Love and former popstar Kelle Bryan, who were seen to be wearing the poppy.

Shocked by Charlene's choice, many fans of the talk show took to social media to express their opinions. One person wrote on X: "Charlene shouldn't be presenting as she doesn't want to wear a poppy. No respect."

While another person added: "I do think it's disrespectful for Charlene not to wear a poppy. I know it gets mentioned every year."

A third user also asked: "Charlene, why do you refuse to wear a Poppy? Every single person on the panel, in the audience, are wearing one, so why not you?"

The anger continued as another person wrote: "Does Charlene not care that many men lost their lives fighting for our country? The disrespect of her not wearing a poppy is disgraceful."

With a fifth person also adding: "Total disgrace to the memory of those who gave their lives for our future."

However, within the X thread, there were some social media users who supported Charlene's decision, as one person wrote: "In a democracy, you are supposed to be free to have your own views and opinions, not what the poppy police say you should do."

A second person also added: "Oops, the poppy police are out again." It should be noted that this is not the first time that the TV presenter has not worn a poppy.

Last year, in an article for ITV, she wrote that it was "never an easy decision due to the racist and sexist abuse" on the back of social media. However, she did acknowledge that her decision did create "a lot of anger".

At the time she claimed that ITV rules meant she was not allowed to visually support charities while "presenting ITV News programming."

She went on to say: "Please don't think that I don't understand the sacrifices made by servicemen and women 100 years ago. I do.

"It is always important to remember what my family, your family, and millions of people over many generations have fought for: the right to choose, and the right of freedom of speech and expression."
