Problem tiger T-91 captured from Moharli buffer range of TATR | Nagpur News - The Times of India

Chandrapur: Forest officials successfully captured a male tiger cub, T-91 SAM-1, from the Moharli (Buffer) Range of the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) on Friday. The operation was initiated following its repeated incursions into human settlements and involvement in a fatal attack earlier this year.A team led by wildlife veterinary officer, Dr Ravikant Khobragade, carried out the operation. The tiger was later moved to the Transit Treatment Centre (TTC) in Chandrapur. The action followed the death of Amol Baban Nannaware (37), a farmer from Bhamdeli village, who was killed on September 24 while working in his field near the reserve's buffer zone. Subsequent monitoring confirmed that the same tiger had been frequently venturing into human-dominated landscapes, heightening the risk of further conflict.Acting on the recommendations of a technical committee constituted under the National Tiger Conservation Authority's (NTCA) standard operating procedures, the principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) M Srinivasa Rao issued a capture order on October 20. The directive was aimed at the mitigation of human-wildlife conflict and the prevention of additional casualties.Officials said the tiger was darted after days of intensive tracking by field staff, veterinarians, and forest guards. Once immobilised, it was safely transported to the Chandrapur TTC for further examination and treatment.Forest authorities emphasised that the decision to capture T-91 was taken only after repeated behavioural assessments and growing evidence of its proximity to human habitation.
