Third-ranked Lexington and No. 5 Reading each rolled in the team's respective Middlesex openers, as did No. 7 BC High and No. 8 St. John's Prep in the first week of Catholic Conference action.
Further down the standings, No. 10 Billerica and No. 11 Lowell each bumped up one spot after securing dominant opening-week victories, with No. 14 North Andover also in the mix in a formidable upper tier of the Merrimack Valley Conference.

The two teams atop the Globe's girls' cross-country Top 20 Poll rolled to victories in their season openers, with No. 1 Lexington topping Wakefield and No. 2 Billerica besting Haverhill.
No. 4 Wellesley held onto its spot after a tight 26-30 triumph over No. 19 Natick, which remains in the Top 20 with two close losses. No. 6 Newton North continued its strong start with dominant wins over No. 20 Weymouth and Milton.
Further down, No. 14 Oliver Ames and No. 16 Canton each got off to a hot start in Hockomock action with dominant victories, as did No. 11 Norwell in a dominant triumph over Middleborogh in its season debut.
