The 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season will witness a nostalgic return as the legendary No. 8 font, synonymous with Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s early career, graces the track once more.
This iconic number will be driven by Sammy Smith, under the banner of JR Motorsports.
From 1999 to 2007, Earnhardt Jr. drove this number, achieving 17 victories in his Cup Series career.
The return of the No. 8 was made possible after Teresa Earnhardt, Dale Jr.'s stepmother, opted not to renew the trademark for the number. This decision provided an opportunity for Dale Jr. to reclaim a symbol of his past. Given the emotional and historical weight carried by this number, it is no wonder that Earnhardt Jr. took to social media to share his excitement about this development.
He posted:
"It's awesome to have this number and font back at @JRMotorsports. Can't wait to see it on @sammysmithSS car next season."
JR Motorsports is renowned for its role in nurturing young drivers, helping them transition smoothly to the NASCAR Cup Series. Past drivers such as Chase Elliott, William Byron, and Justin Allgaier have each gone on to have successful careers in the Cup Series following their tenures with JR Motorsports.
Commenting on the return of the iconic No. 8 font, Earnhardt Jr explained in the press release, as previously reported by Newsweek Sports:
"It is awesome to have this number and this font back at JR Motorsports this year, and I can't wait to see it on the car in Daytona.
"That's going to be a pretty awesome feeling for me personally. Sammy is going to do a great job with it. Excited to have that number out there and I know everybody else is as well.
"It is an incredible opportunity for me to be able to reunite with Budweiser, and the No. 8," said Earnhardt Jr.
"Budweiser and I had some great memories with that iconic scheme and number. We've always supported each other over the years. It's going to be really special for me to be able to represent that brand on the racetrack again."
Smith also shared his excitement about driving with the livery, stating:
"I'm honored to bring this version of the legendary 8 back to the track. Thank you DaleJr and JRMotorsports"
