Jimmy Kimmel Made a Joke About the Manning Brothers and the Audience Wasn't on His Side

Jimmy Kimmel Made a Joke About the Manning Brothers and the Audience Wasn't on His Side

The Disney Upfront celebration took place in New York City this week and had so many of our favorite actors there to talk about their shows. That included Peyton Manning and Eli Manning taking the stage to do an opening number that included songs, cowbell, Glen Powell, and talking about the new Hulu series Chad Powers. It was meant in good fun to just kind of poke at things, especially since Chad Powers is based on a very weird and funny sketch that the former Giants quarterback did. It wasn't something that Jimmy Kimmel enjoyed though and he took to the stage to roast the Manning brothers by comparing them to Lyle Menendez and his brother, Erik Menendez, who famously killed their parents and went to jail for it.

And the end of the Disney Upfront, Kimmel took to the stage to roast other networks and have a little fun. But his comment about the Manning brothers ended up earning him the audience groaning while he was on stage. The opening number of the event included the brothers singing a song that included their names in some of ABC and Disney's popular shows. Kaitlin Olson, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Sterling K. Brown all had shout outs and joined the two on stage to joke with the former football players. Kimmel was not a fan. "I do want to thank the Manning brothers for finally answering the question, 'What if two jars of mayonnaise could sing?' The answer is, they can't," Kimmel said.

Instead of leaving the mean joke there and ending it with him calling two of the greatest football players "mayonnaise," he went on to say that he thought their song was worse than "what the Menendez brothers did." The response was a groan from the audience. "Too soon or too late?" Kimmel moved on by teasingly threatening advertisers with another Manning brothers performance."Do give us money before we send them out again," he said.

It's Time to Leave the Menendez Brothers Out of It

Since the release of Ryan Murphy's Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, many have brought up the Menendez brothers again. The case, which was incredibly popular and tense in the 90s, detailed the alleged abuse these two brothers faced at the hands of their father, who they murdered. It's complicated and people have a lot of feelings on the topic so Kimmel having a negative reaction to his "roast" of the Manning brothers isn't that surprising. Especially if he was making light of their singing ability when we all know what happened with the Menendez brothers.

You can see the Mannings new show, Chad Powers, on Hulu.
