FedEx apologizes for late, missing packages amid holiday rush in Georgia

AUSTELL, Ga. - There is growing frustration and anger over missing packages this holiday season in metro Atlanta. Complaints have been coming in about delayed packages from the FedEx facility in Austell.

"It's very frustrating. We're waiting on our packages, and we feel like they're being held hostage," said Elaine.

For weeks, Elaine has been waiting for several packages. She says they appear to be stuck inside the FedEx building in Austell.

"Every day they'll pop up and say, hey, we're coming, we're coming. And when you look on the actual tracker, it's just sitting there," said Elaine.

She posted about it on social media and realized she's not the only one.

"Some people are missing, you know, items for their babies, they're missing prescription drugs for their dogs, they're missing Christmas packages," said Elaine.

"It's been really frustrating," said Chris Stephens.

Stephens has been waiting for six packages filled with items he needs for his business.

"It would say every single day it was going to be delivered, gave me timing every single day for the last two weeks, and they never left the building," said Stephens.

He says he has made 14 calls to the Austell facility, and still no deliveries.

Not one to sit back and do nothing, Stephens shipped himself a package with a tracker inside. It was supposed to be delivered to his home the next day.

"It ended up in Austell and hasn't moved since," said Stephens.

FOX 5 contacted FedEx and received the following statement:

"We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused by delays in the Austell area and appreciate our customers' patience as we implement contingencies, including securing additional delivery resources, to deliver these packages as quickly as possible. Customers can visit fedex.com for package tracking, customer service assistance, or to use our virtual assistant to redirect their packages to be held at one of several nearby locations for pick up."

Elaine also received word from FedEx and was told they are looking into what happened with her packages.

"I don't want them to just look at me, look into getting all the packages out, look into getting everyone's stuff out of the trailers and helping everyone," said Elaine.

FOX 5 reported on problems at the Austell facility other times over the past few years. Customers say FedEx needs to take a hard look at what's going on here and fix the problem.
