After a standout performance in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, Julius Randle followed that up with a disappointing Game 2. This was his first bad game of the Minnesota Timberwolves 2025 postseason run, but it came at the worst time against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Coach Chris Finch decided to bench Randle for the fourth quarter, ending his performance at only six points. It was a rough night for the two-time All-NBA forward, which led to him ending Game 2 early.
This was a surprising performance because Randle has been the Timberwolves' most consistent player in the Playoffs. He was a key figure in their series wins against the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors.
Unfortunately, he had his worst postseason performance against the Thunder because of his missed shots and struggles against OKC's elite defense. He could not make a perimeter shot, and he struggled when he tried to play bully ball in the paint.

Finch Valued Reid More Than Randle In Game 2
Due to his disappointing performance, Randle had to sit on the bench for the fourth quarter. It was a bad night for him, so Finch realized he could work better if he ran with Naz Reid for the rest of the game. He was working hard on the rebounds, and he still provided a threat with his offensive ability.
That did not work out well for the Timberwolves after losing the game 118 to 103. It was a tough pill for everyone because Anthony Edwards and Nickeil Alexander-Walker tried to carry them to a win, but they could not finish due to the hole they found themselves in after the third quarter.
"I just thought Naz had a good game going. Just wanted to try to see if I could spread the floor and get some quick decision-making out there. Just trying to change the complexion of the game," Finch said after Game 2.
Randle Can Bounce Back In Game 3
After being the standout player for the Timberwolves in the first two rounds and in Game of the Western Conference Finals, everyone expects a Randle redemption in Game 3. They will be playing at Target Center, the Timberwolves' home court, and they will get a boost.
Randle knows he struggled, so he will be motivated even more to perform. Finch also supported him, but he should have felt more motivated when he realized Finch chose Reid over his starting power forward.
The stage is set for the Timberwolves to mount a comeback. It will be challenging because they are playing the Thunder, but it is possible, especially with a motivated group like the Timberwolves.
